SA Entrepreneur Lawrence Khekhe Shares The Importance Of Being Computer Literate In Today’s Age. The rise of digital technology has made it very important for people to be computer literate as many things are moving online platforms. Being Computer literate gives an advantage as it also gives access to a lot of information.

In an interview with eNCA, co-founder of Eyethu National Computer College shared why it is important for people to learn about computers and how to use them, whether they are young or old. He said, “Right now especially since Covid-19, everyone needs to be computer literate, the reason being is that everything we do nowadays we do it online even the zoom meetings or Microsoft meetings, so everyone needs to be computer literate. People are actually now even having a lot of interest to use these computers, whether it is young people or old people.”

As the world continues its transition from an industrial to a high digital economy, education, technology, access and training are becoming critical tools in search for social equity. Eyethu National Computer College is an established education and training institution in the Information Technology industry. The company will focus its core business activities on computer services and developmental training (ICT). The company has developed a well-structured and integrated educational programme in ICT for schools. The primary aim of the programme is to close the digital gab between the previously disadvantaged communities (schools) and the so called model C’s, i.e. to bring the balance within the education system.

In order for an entrepreneur to build a successful business in today’s age, they need to have a social media presence so that they can leverage off the marketing and advertising they will get form the platforms, being Computer literate allows an entrepreneur to know which digital tools are needed in order to maximise the advertising of the startup. By having this knowledge they have a competitive edge over other entrepreneurs who only rely on traditional methods of advertising or marketing.
