French Media Company Groupe Canal+ Increases Its Stake In Multichoice. South African company Multichoice has announced that French media company Groupe Canal+ has increased its stake in the company, and its shares now amount to 26.26%.

“Holders of ordinary shares in MultiChoice are advised that the Company hasreceived formal notification, in terms of section 122(1) of the Act, that French media companyGroupe Canal+ SA (“Groupe Canal+”) has acquired an additional interest in the ordinary shares ofthe Company, such that the total interest in the ordinary shares of the Company held by GroupeCanal+ now amounts to 26.26% of the Company’s total ordinary shares in issue.” Multichoice said in a statement.

MultiChoice is a South African company that operates DStv, a major satellite television service in Sub-Saharan Africa and GOtv, a minor service operating in over 9 countries of this area and Showmax service. MultiChoice was formed out of the subscriber-management branch of the M-Net terrestrial pay television company, and broadcasts the full range of M-Net channels on the DStv service. Multichoice continued to say, “MultiChoice remains committed to acting in the best interests of all shareholders and to createsustainable long-term shareholder value. While the Group regularly engages investors andmaintains an open dialogue with the investment community, its policy is not to comment on itsindividual shareholders nor on its interactions with them.”

Groupe Canal+ is a company that is 100% owned by Vivendi. Vivendi SE is a French mass media holding company headquartered in Paris. Widely known as the owner of Gameloft, Groupe Canal+, Havas, Editis, Prisma Media, Vivendi Village and Dailymotion, the company has activities in television, film, video game, book publishing, print press, communication, tickets and video hosting services.
