Brima Cafe Founder Tshepo Mekoa Shares How Loadshedding Has Negatively Affected His Establishment. Last year saw the electricity crisis take a turn for the worse in South Africa as Eskom announced that loadshedding would be taking place everyday, this has not only affected small businesses in the country but it has also affected big corporations. South African entrepreneur and founder of Brima Cafe Tshepo Mekoa took to Twitter to share how loadshedding has negatively affected his business.
The post read, “#brimacafe is on its last BREATH. I thought buying a GENERATOR will assist. In actual fact, Our cost of doing business SHOT UP. Politicians and Eskom looters, you are RESPONSIBLE for the DISRUPTION of 17 people’s lives working for this establishment.”
This electricity crisis in South Africa has left a lot of business closing down during loadshedding hours making them lose valuable time and money. This is an issue that not a lot of businesses are going to survive through as there is no immediate solution that is being implemented to solve all of Eskom’s problems. Businesses are left to rely on other forms of electricity and Mekoa trusted that if he invests in a generator, things would be better for his business but he found out that the cost of having a generator is weighing heavily on the business’ finances and therefore it doesn’t seem like a viable solution for small businesses.
This shows that the electricity crisis is slowly killing away the businesses that can help propel the economy of South Africa. Entrepreneurs are already finding it hard to establish their businesses due to lack of funding among other issues and this electricity problem has made it impossible for entrepreneurs who managed to establish their businesses to continue operating in an environment ripe for business growth.
