Daystar Power Launches In South Africa

Daystar Power Launches In South Africa. Daystar Power is thrilled to announce its entry into South Africa, marking a significant milestone in its mission to bring clean energy to the continent. The company also takes great pleasure in introducing Wendy Green as the new country head, whose expertise and leadership will play a vital role in driving its efforts to provide affordable, reliable, and clean power solutions to businesses in the country.

As the most industrialized economy on the continent, South Africa finds itself grappling with a debilitating electricity crisis. Daystar Power’s aim is to fill this critical gap by offering hybrid solar energy solutions to businesses that are currently relying on costly diesel generators to cope with frequent blackouts.

With more than 15 years of experience, Wendy Green brings a strong track record in South Africa’s renewable energy industry. She has worked for blue-chip South African companies like Exxaro, Sappi and Sasol contributing to their energy transition strategies and initiatives.

Her career in renewables took off while she was a management consultant at MAC Consulting. Her primary focus was assisting Exxaro Resources, one of South Africa’s largest coal mining companies, in setting up an energy and carbon management program. This program aimed to integrate energy efficiency, energy generation and sustainable practices into Exxaro’s business decisions by looking at the three critical areas of energy security, energy cost and carbon footprint.

Under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) program, Wendy led the Cennergi team in submitting five Independent Power Producer (IPP) proposals to the government, aiming to sell the clean energy they generated to the grid. Of the five proposals, two large-scale wind farms were accepted, signifying a breakthrough in the adoption of renewable energy in South Africa. Both the 140MW Amakhala Emoyeni and 94MW Tsitsikamma Community wind farms are operational today.
