CardSpace Launches Free Digital Loyalty Pilot for SMEs in Johannesburg and Cape Town

CardSpace Launches Free Digital Loyalty Pilot for SMEs in Johannesburg and Cape Town. CardSpace has introduced a free proof of concept for its digital loyalty platform, offering small businesses in Johannesburg and Cape Town an opportunity to explore app-based rewards tools without facing upfront costs. The initiative is aimed at entrepreneurs and independent operators who want to improve customer retention and strengthen repeat business but may not have had access to digital loyalty solutions before.
The company will select between 15 and 20 businesses to participate in the pilot. Selected participants will be able to test digital stamp and reward campaigns, track customer activity in real time and gather basic engagement insights. CardSpace says the trial removes the financial barriers that typically prevent SMEs from experimenting with loyalty systems by covering onboarding, printed materials and support during the trial period.
The platform replaces paper loyalty cards and voucher books with a unified digital system designed to record visits, spending patterns and customer feedback. According to the company, the intention is to give entrepreneurs access to functions that are often associated with larger retailers who use advanced CRM systems.
The POC is aimed at businesses with consistent foot traffic. Eligible sectors include cafés, barbershops, boutiques, dispensaries, bakeries and fitness studios. CardSpace notes that the pilot is specifically structured for entrepreneurs who have considered implementing a loyalty programme but have lacked the time, skills or resources to manage one effectively.
The company expects the pilot to provide operational insights that will guide future product updates. It aims to learn how independent businesses use digital loyalty tools, what challenges they face and what types of rewards drive meaningful customer engagement.
Digital loyalty tools have become increasingly important as businesses look for straightforward ways to maintain customer relationships in competitive local markets. Many SMEs rely on repeat visits, and digital systems offer a structured method to monitor activity without requiring manual record keeping. By introducing a pilot that removes initial costs, CardSpace aims to give businesses space to experiment with technology that can streamline operations and support customer engagement.
The initiative comes at a time when digital adoption among small businesses continues to grow. Entrepreneurs continue to explore tools that help them understand how customers interact with their brands and which incentives encourage return visits. Applications open.
