Mr Price Foundation Opens In-Store Coffee Incubator for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs

Mr Price Foundation Opens In-Store Coffee Incubator for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs. The Mr Price Foundation has opened applications for a new enterprise development initiative aimed at young women who want to operate small coffee businesses within major retail environments. The Foundation Coffee incubator programme will place selected participants in café kiosks located inside Mr Price Home stores, offering hands on exposure to running a customer facing business while generating income.

Under the programme, successful applicants will manage coffee kiosks at three identified retail locations: Diep River in Cape Town, Hillcrest in Durban, and Nelspruit Crossing in Mbombela. Participants will take responsibility for daily operations, including customer service, stock control, supplier coordination, and basic financial administration linked to sales and expenses.

The foundation said the initiative is structured to prioritise practical trading experience over theoretical instruction. By operating inside established retail stores with consistent foot traffic, participants will gain exposure to real market conditions, customer behaviour, and operational pressures that many early stage entrepreneurs struggle to access independently.

Mr Price Foundation executive director Octavius Phukubye said the model is designed to support sustainable enterprise development by embedding entrepreneurs directly into commercial settings. He said the initial three kiosks will function as a pilot to assess operational performance, participant outcomes, and the long term viability of expanding the concept to additional locations.

Alongside day to day trading, the programme includes mentorship and targeted business skills support. The foundation said this combination is intended to help participants strengthen decision making, improve operational discipline, and build credible trading histories that can support future growth opportunities.

For South African entrepreneurs, the programme reflects a growing emphasis on partnerships between retailers and enterprise development organisations to lower barriers to market entry. Access to established retail infrastructure, predictable customer flows, and brand aligned environments can reduce startup risk and accelerate learning for micro businesses.

Applications for the Foundation Coffee incubator programme are now open through the Mr Price Foundation’s online application platform. Interested candidates are required to submit applications by 16 January 2026. Due to the limited number of placements available, the foundation has encouraged early submissions from qualifying applicants.

By situating emerging businesses within national retail chains, the initiative offers lessons for other South African companies exploring supplier development and incubation models. Structured access to markets, combined with accountability and mentorship, can play a role in strengthening local entrepreneurship ecosystems and building commercially grounded small enterprises over time while maintaining operational discipline and financial sustainability standards nationally.
