SportyTV Secures South African Broadcast Rights for 2026 FIFA World Cup

SportyTV Secures South African Broadcast Rights for 2026 FIFA World Cup. SportyTV has obtained a licence from FIFA to broadcast all 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in South Africa on a pay television basis.
The agreement gives SportyTV full rights to air every match of the tournament, marking a significant development in the country’s sports broadcasting landscape. The company confirmed that its coverage will include extensive pre- and post-match programming, produced from studios based in Cape Town and Madrid.
SportyTV stated that a lineup of commentators and football analysts will support its coverage, although further details on the on-air team are yet to be announced. It also remains unclear whether any of the content will be made available on free-to-air platforms such as OpenView.
The broadcaster plans to deploy production teams across the host nations, including United States, Canada, and Mexico. These teams are expected to follow Bafana Bafana throughout the tournament, capturing behind-the-scenes content and match-day coverage from the opening fixture through to the final stages.
In addition to live broadcasts, SportyTV outlined plans for a broader content strategy built around digital platforms. This approach will include continuous online updates, social media-focused storytelling, and interactive fan engagement designed to extend the viewing experience beyond traditional television.
Elías Gallego, Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Media at Sporty Group, said the company aims to integrate content, technology, and audience interaction into a single ecosystem. He noted that the 2026 tournament provides an opportunity to showcase this approach on a global stage.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to be one of the largest editions of the tournament, featuring an expanded format and multiple host countries. SportyTV’s acquisition of the South African broadcast rights positions the platform as a key player in delivering the event to local audiences, with a focus on both live coverage and digital engagement.
