4 Things That Bathu Founder Theo Baloyi Says Are Important When Looking For A Celebrity Collaborator. Bathu Footwear recently announced their collaboration with actor and presenter Somizi Mhlongo that saw them releasing a collection of sneakers that were inspired by minerals such as gold and platinum. In an interview with Trending SA on SABC 3 Theo Baloyi, the founder and CEO of Bathu Footwear highlighted some of the key factors to look for when a business is considering a celebrity collaborator or brand ambassador.

These are some of the things he pointed out:

He believes that companies should look for celebrities that can resonate with their brand so that they can advocate for it. Baloyi waited for Mhlongo outside Metro Fm offices in 2015 and pitched him his idea, this shows that Baloyi really believed that Mhlongo was the right person for this collaboration.

The entrepreneur believes that companies should plan out their collaborations or partnerships years before as this builds a strong relationship that will be sustainable when the partnership is announced.

He says that a collaborator should be someone who can resonate with people from various backgrounds and be able to communicate with them about the brand’s values and goals as this will make the customers fall in love with the brand or company.

Companies should also look into the kind of influence the person they want to collaborate with has. The person should be able to connect with people and get them to engage with the product.

Baloyi went on to say that his biggest lesson since starting the business was that an entrepreneur needs to have the right intensions of starting a business. He created Bathu Footwear so that Africans can have a shoe brand that they can proudly be affiliated with; to re-ignite hope in the youth and to create sustainable jobs. Baloyi also believes that entrepreneurs need to have patience when they are starting out their business as it takes time and effort to build a successful business.

He also added that entrepreneurs need to have the urge to constantly want to learn and improve their business because everything evolves rapidly in the business world.
