Aweh Mobile Enters South African Market With Family-Focused MVNO Service

Aweh Mobile Enters South African Market With Family-Focused MVNO Service. Aweh Mobile has entered South Africa’s telecommunications market as a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), introducing a service designed to allow households to manage multiple SIM cards through one account.
The provider’s offering is centred on giving customers a single platform for managing voice, SMS and data across multiple users. Customers can share services between SIMs, monitor usage, receive balance notifications and activate automatic top-ups.
Aweh Mobile has also included parental controls in its service, allowing parents to manage aspects of their children’s mobile usage.
Nokuthula Mkhwane, managing director of Aweh Mobile, said the company was established with South African families in mind, with its service focused on making multiple mobile connections easier to manage.
“Affordability is important, but affordability should never mean compromising on the quality, convenience or value of the service a family receives,” Mkhwane said.
Rather than requiring households to manage each SIM independently, Aweh’s platform brings several users under one account. The company said this is intended to give households greater visibility of mobile usage and spending.
The service is positioned around prepaid and flexible mobile usage. However, Aweh did not disclose its network host or specific pricing details in the announcement.
The company said its parental controls are intended for households where children use mobile devices for communication, education and entertainment.
Aweh’s launch adds another provider to South Africa’s developing MVNO market. Virtual operators use existing telecommunications infrastructure while developing services aimed at particular customer groups.
Customers can access Aweh Mobile through its website as well as applications available on iOS and Android.
Mkhwane said the company wants customers to view affordability in terms of value and control rather than price alone.
The launch therefore places household management at the centre of Aweh Mobile’s proposition, with the company seeking to combine multiple mobile services, usage monitoring and parental controls through a single account.
