Bosun Invests Over R300m in New Western Cape Manufacturing Facility

Bosun Invests Over R300m in New Western Cape Manufacturing Facility. Bosun is investing more than R300 million in a new manufacturing facility in Cape Town’s Northern Growth Corridor as the precast concrete products group prepares to expand its operations into the Western Cape market.
The facility is expected to begin production in early 2028 and will serve the paving, kerbing, retaining wall and erosion control markets. The development will bring Bosun’s manufacturing capabilities and product range closer to customers in the province.
Although Bosun has supplied projects in the Western Cape for several years, the investment marks the establishment of a new local manufacturing operation. Previous projects supplied by the group include the Riverlands precinct and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, The One Student Accommodation in Stellenbosch and Val de Vie Estate in Paarl.
The new facility will feature an imported Hess production plant incorporating German manufacturing technology. It is intended to serve architects, landscape designers, developers, contractors and homeowners, while providing civil engineering contractors with access to Bosun’s patented technical products and solutions.
The Western Cape investment forms part of a broader capital expenditure programme across the Bosun Group. The company has also announced upgrades to existing manufacturing facilities in Gauteng and the North-West, with similar investment planned for its Eastern Cape operation.
SmartStone, which is also part of the group, acquired its Western Cape licensee in March 2026. The facility is set to undergo substantial modernisation to enable the manufacture of SmartStone’s latest wet-cast product range.
Together, the new Bosun facility and the SmartStone operation are expected to create approximately 80 permanent jobs in the Western Cape.
Before production begins at the new Bosun facility, selected products will be supplied from the group’s Midrand and Gqeberha operations through SmartStone’s facility in Wellington.
This arrangement is expected to give customers in the province access to Bosun products ahead of the start of local manufacturing.
